Below are just a few kind words our previous buyers have said about us here at Lyharr Gundogs.
Janet has been exemplary as a breeder, mentor and tutor. Full of knowledge she has reassured us every step of the way and if we had any questions to ask she was always at hand. From advice on how to choose a puppy, to basic training and tips, Janet has made this a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend her services as a breeder.
When we arrived to collect our pup she provided us with papers filled with up to to date information and the dog’s family history, as well as food and blankets – so that was one thing less to worry about when we first got home with our puppy.
I also felt with Janet there was no such thing as a daft question, she would quickly reassure us if we had any questions and provide useful advice.
We keep up to date with Janet and are looking to work Trigger (our dog) on shoots and she has provided us with excellent advice and pointers to other trainers who may be able to help too.
I couldn’t recommend Janet enough and in the future, when we decided to expand our little pack, we won’t be looking anywhere else but to Janet!

I would like to congratulate you on turning out especially in my case a well found , calm and healthy pup .
This was essential for me as I have worked my HWHV ‘s for the past eighteen years on game and in the main Deer stalking which for us is twelve months of the year .
I was looking for a replacement for one of my older dogs and as I never do anything hurried and in the working HPR world you have to be very careful to get the right temperament , I have owned and bred gundogs all my life and cannot stress how important this is .
I was told of your intention in having a litter by my Daughter and a good friend of ours in York a long term HWHV breeder .
I was impressed how even before the mating you started the vetting process and sent photos of both Dam and Sire .
I was kept informed from the mating to the pregnancy test , possible number of pups and continued health of the bitch then informed of how many pups and sex, it was an added interest to follow your regular Whatsapp group chats and photos , something I have learned from .
Your care , feeding and cleanliness in my long experience was second to none , I am pleased that you are really interested in their new homes and development giving people as much advice as they need in their circumstances .
The mating of Raffa and Evie genetically ” clicked ” with a sound uniform litter and I am delighted with my choice Freya ,being advanced with her training and without a doubt one of the steadiest dogs I have trained for Tracking post shot Deer Stalking . I will send you a few more photos for your ” puppy wall” as she progresses .

We first found Janet by being so impressed with the condition, build and temperament of Humphrey, a Lyharr puppy who we met out for a walk by our local river. Although not actually looking for a WHV at the time, Humphrey was such a beautiful dog we asked for details of the breeder there and then. Humphrey’s owners were also very full of praise for Janet.
From first contact with Janet we were impressed by her efficiency, openness and obvious love and commitment to the WHV. She maintained regular contact throughout the puppeis’ first weeks, with helpful advice, progress reports and some lovely photos and videos of the litter.
We were invited up to see the pups (and for Janet to check us out as suitable owners) and were even more impressed with Janet’s good advice and the condition of the puppies’ accomodation, and also how they were with Janet. It was clear to us that Janet dearly loved each of the puppies and her small pack of Wires.
Since Lyharr Bluebell joined our family, Janet has been continually monitoring the puppies’ (and the owners’) progress and is always at hand for support, at all times, about anything puppy-related no matter how trivial. She’s set up an online puppy group where all of us owners can interact and compare the progress of our lovely dogs. She has encouraged all of us through the difficulties of settling-in and training. And of course we are very pleased to show all the others what a lovely dog Lola is! And no matter who we meet whilst out and about, just after they say ‘look how big those feet are’ they enthuse about her build, condition and intelligence. We ignore the comments about her behaviour, she’s still only learning…
I honestly cannot imagine there could be a better breeder than Janet, or better WHV puppies than Lyharr.

We first made contact with Janet having seen a comment on a Vizsla forum on facebook. We had previously contacted a small number of breeders via Champdogs but with no success. In retrospect I am glad as meeting Janet was a life-changer. Janet was very open, sharing lots of information with us about her, the litter, the Mum and Dad and answering all of our questions. She was always very quick to respond. Importantly Janet asked lots of questions of us too – this gave us confidence that Janet really did want the best for her pups but also that she would help guide us through the puppy journey.
Once we had “passed the test” and knew that there was a pup available, Janet was amazing at keep us up to date with the progress of the litter. We got almost daily photos and updates. She always kept us informed of the next steps for the pups/us. Again importantly she was always there to answer questions – with permission she created a whats app group for the litter – this was great as we all had different questions and could all learn from each other but mainly from Janet’s comments to questions from all the families.
As soon as we were able to (due to lockdown) Janet was very willing for us to go and visit. We were able to spend lots of time with the pups and well as meet Mum (and the extended HWV family!) which was just wonderful.
The litter was so well looked after – Janet provided a fantastic environment for them. They had lots of space both inside and outside and were well socialised, had had lots of visitors including children and were used to lots of different sights and sounds.
Janet was great at getting us ready for the pup to come home – she was very flexible about pick up arrangements and put together a puppy pack that was so helpful. As well as being given blankets with the litter smell, we received guidance about their routine – sleep (lots needed!), play (lots toys given), feeding (a 12kg bag of food given). Janet was also very helpful in providing guidance re worming and vaccinations. Pups were up to date with this as needed as well as being microchipped (as per legislation).
Once we got home Janet was always on hand to provide additional support and guidance and was always happy to answer all our questions. Today almost a year on she continues to be there for us.
I would recommend Janet 100% as a breeder – she is so knowledgeable about the breed, she never judged us and is always helpful. She is honest and realistic about the breed and her expectations. Our experience of having a new pup again was most definitely enhanced as a result of the input we had (and continue to have) from Janet. A huge thank you

Our experience has been totally positive; from the moment we contacted Janet about the new litter, to the present day (almost 6 months later ) with the support that is still readily available.
The knowledge and love of the HWV breed has been demonstrated to us throughout and I cannot think how our pup could have been given a better start in life.
We are happy to say that with Janet’s hard work and expert guidance we have a healthy, confident, affectionate and very energetic young dog that is a delight to all that meet him.

We have 2 WH vizslas both bred by Janet at the llhyar gun dogs. We have on both occasions been impressed by her. Our most recent pup, Douglas, is a delight (most of the time) and I am sure this is because he comes from a respected competent confident breeder.
Janet clearly has a breadth of knowledge and of course a love/ passion for these fantastic but not always easy gun dogs. She continues to support us and loves to see and hear about their progress

We both found you to be very honest regarding the breed and their quirky personalities. Knowledgeable , excellent care for Dotty the mum and all of the puppies, genuine love for all your dog’s. Brilliant aftercare which is still ongoing.

We heard about Janet from a lovely couple walking two Vizslas up in Northumberland. We called her and left her our name and details. The vetting process was very thorough which is good to know. Once the pups were born she set up a WhatsApp group and we followed the pup updates on a daily basis. It was amazing as you felt like you were part of the “first” steps. Buying a pup off Janet was brilliant. So much thought had gone into everything including our pup packs on the day we finally got our new girl. I recommend Janet to everyone.

We found Janet after our friends got a puppy from her. As soon as we found out another litter was on the way, we registered our interest. After many conversations with Janet, we knew she was a reliable and trustworthy breeder. She has so much love, care and time towards the litter from day 1 and this is shown with the quality of the pups.
Janet’s daily updates of the little ones were brilliant, I would always look forward to receiving pictures and videos to watch them grow and find their feet. Janet certainly provided them with the best start to their life’s – tunnels, trampolines, ball pits!
8 weeks later, collection day finally came round. The hand over was very reassuring. A booklet full of the puppy’s routine, things to do, tips, family history, health checks, insurance, microchip. Just everything.
Any questions no matter how big or small, Janet has been there to guide me with such brilliant knowledge and guidance.
I couldn’t recommend Janet enough.

We got Molby from Janet in 2021 and could not recommend her highly enough as a breeder. She has beautiful, healthy dogs which are part of her family and she care for her new pups in the same way. At the start of the process she took time to find out about us and make sure that we were suitable owners. She kept us up to date with regular pictures of the pups and lots of advice and tips about making sure they stayed healthy and happy after we took them home. A year on, she is still available to answer any questions and show a real interest in how all her offspring are getting on.
